Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Course Description

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is intended for healthcare professionals who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units that encounter pediatric patients on a regular basis.
PALS uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.

The goal of this course is to prepare healthcare providers caring for pediatric patients to give them the tools to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory &/or cardiac emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.

  • Perform high-quality CPR
  • Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
  • Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early
  • Apply Team Dynamics
  • Differentiate between respiratory destress and failure
  • Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
  • Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
  • Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
  • Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
  • Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Implement post-cardiac arrest management

All formats are taught by American Heart Association (AHA) certified instructors and follow the AHA guidelines for the course.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion eCard, valid for two years.
