Approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
This EMT IV Certification Course provides Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to initiate and maintain intravenous (IV) access. The course is designed in accordance with CDPHE guidelines and prepares students for certification as an IV-certified EMT in the state of Colorado.
This 3-day course includes both didactic instruction and hands-on practical training, culminating in a skills verification session and a written examination. Students must successfully perform IV insertions under the supervision of a qualified instructor and demonstrate competency in all required skills.
After the classroom portion of the course, students will be required to obtain IV access in a clinical setting under the supervision of an approved proctor. Additional steps to attend clinical rotations will be provided after registration.
Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible for IV endorsement through CDPHE and may begin performing IV therapy within their EMT scope of practice under medical direction.
