Wilderness First Aid

Course Description

The Wilderness First Aid course prepares you to recognize, treat, and prevent common injuries and illnesses in remote environments where professional medical care may be delayed. Through a mix of lecture, hands-on skills labs, and realistic scenarios, you’ll build the confidence and competence to manage emergencies in the backcountry.

Topics include patient assessment, wound management, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental hazards (heat, cold, altitude, lightning), improvised splinting and carries, evacuation strategies, and long-term care considerations. Scenarios are designed to be practical, challenging, and directly relevant to real-world wilderness settings.

Whether you’re leading a multi-day backpacking trip or heading out on your own, this course gives you the skills to be the one who’s ready when something goes wrong.

Prerequisites: No prior medical training required. Adult AED/CPR training encouraged.
What to Bring: Outdoor clothing, day pack, water/snacks, notepad, and any gear you would typically carry in the field
